Abby and her family are proud, long-time Monrovians. After starting her teaching career at Bradoaks Elementary, Abby and her husband were able to buy their first home on Shrode Avenue in southern Monrovia. They welcomed all three of their children in that home. Shortly after their third child was born, the Veltmans moved to their current home in northern Monrovia.

A dedicated educator, Abby’s teaching career began at Bradoaks Elementary in 2001. Today, she works as a reading specialist in a neighboring district. As a mother of three - with her oldest heading to college, her middle child entering eighth grade at Clifton Middle School, and her youngest starting third grade - Abby is deeply invested in the daily reality of local families.

For well over a decade, Abby has actively served the Monrovia community. She has a strong background in school-based volunteer work as well as partnering with staff and parents as a member of School Site Council for multiple terms. Additionally, Abby has helped coordinate local food drives, volunteer with Girl Scouts, worked with her church youth programs, helped manage multiple athletic teams and supported the Immigration Resource Center. 

After attending undergraduate studies and earning her BA in English from Calvin University, Abby went on to earn her Master of Education from Aquinas College in 2001.

Abby is deeply grateful for the dedication and service of the current School Board. She believes that introducing new perspectives is the natural next step to building an even stronger, more vibrant district for Monrovia's students, staff, and families.
